Singers in Accord will celebrate its 8th concert season at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis singing Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem and Yves Castagnet's Messe Bréve. Conducted by Kathy Saltzman Romey, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Minnesota and Artistic Director of the Minnesota Chorale, our acclaimed singer-led chorale ensemble will be accompanied by award-winning organist Tom Trenney. The first organist to be awarded First Prize and Audience Prize in the American Guild of Organists National Competition in Organ Improvisation in 2006, Mr. Trenney is renowned for his imaginative and electric improvisations.
Each night’s concert will be unique. The Requiem Mass will be the centerpiece of the concerts—a contemplation of peace, light, hope, and rest amid the mystery and struggle of life’s journey on Earth.
A pre-concert discussion with featured organist Tom Trenney will be led by Michael Barone of American Public Media, on Friday November 11th and Professor Dean Billmeyer of the University of Minnesota on Saturday November 12th. Beginning at 6:55pm each evening, the 15 minute discussion will focus some on the Duruflé works and also provide insights into the world of the organist/composer/conductor, which encompasses the activity of Duruflé, Castagnet and Mr. Trenney’s own work.
Join us for this very special experience of reflection, remembrance, and joy!
Also on Saturday (November 12): an organ improvisation workshop and masterclass with Tom Trenney, hosted by the American Guild of Organists. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Catholic Church; registration will begin at 8:30.
